NOTICE OF COMPLETION
Environmental Screening Coldwell
Wind Energy Project

Brookfield Renewable Power is proposing to construct the Coldwell Wind Energy project situated approximately 20 km northwest of Marathon, Ontario. The 100-MW renewable energy project will consist of 66 - 1.5 MW wind turbine generators, in addition to access roads, electrical switchyards and collection lines. The study area for the proposed wind energy project is shown on the map below.

The Environmental Screening Report was completed in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment's Screening Process under the Electricity Projects Regulation and Natural Resources Canada's Environmental Statement Guidelines for Screenings of Inland Wind Farms under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.

The Environmental Screening Report is available for public, First Nation and agency review at the following locations:

  • Marathon - Municipal Offices, 4 Hemlo Drive
  • Pic River First Nation - Adminstrative Offices, 78 Pic River Road
  • Thunder Bay - Ministry of the Environment, 435 James Street South.

The environmental screening concludes that there are no significant environmental effects after the application of mitigation and other impact management measures. The proponent intends to proceed with the project subject to the noted mitigation, other commitments and approvals.

Any outstanding environmental concerns should be provided to and/or discussed with the person named below. If unable to resolve the matter, a written request to elevate the project to an individual Environmental Assessment may be made to the Director of the Environmental Assessment and Approvals Branch, Ministry of the Environment, 2 St. Clair Avenue W., Floor 12A, Toronto, ON. M4V 1L5, with a copy to the person named below. Elevation requests must be received before May 1, 2008 and must be in accordance with the provisions set out in Ministry of the Environment's Guide to Environmental Assessment Requirements for Electricity Projects.
